We are a Year Four, Five and Six class. Our blog enables our families to see some of what we are doing and share in our learning journey at Koraunui School. We also have many links to learning games and activities.

Keeping Kids Safe
We had a visit from the people who run keeping kids safe. They talked to us about different ways we can stay safe. Ben was chosen to help show us how he would keep himself safe when riding a Harley. First he needed a leather jacket and boots.

Year Six Sam's Wold of Waste Trip
The Year Sixes were lucky to have the opportunity to do this trip sponsored by Hutt City Council. It fitted in well with our Take Action inquiry and showed us that we are able to do a lot more to keep our environment clean when we take personal responsibility for our waste.
We visited Allbrites where cans, glass, plastics, paper and card are recycled. We were able to see that sorting our recycling on rubbish day is really important.
When we visited the Landfill we saw how many people do not bother to recycle and just throw away many things which could be used by others.

At the end of Term One, Koraunui hosted the sitech interactive whiteboard conference. What an amazing reflection of our fantastic community. The feedback from visitors was overwhelmingly positive. Senior classes even had students presenting a workshop. How awesome is that. In our class, James was the presenter and he has done a wonderful job of passing his skills on to others in the class.
Our Kapa Haka and Pasifika groups both performed to the conference participants and were fabulous.

Take Action for Water 2010
Take Action for Water will be our main focus for the year for topic. It involves learning about healthy aquatic habitats and testing our local streams to see how they measure up. Our first field trip was to Korokoro Stream in Belmont which we discovered was in excellent health. Next we went to Oparu Stream in Lower Hutt which has been extensively modified by people and is in poor health. Here is a slide show of some of our trip photos. The video shows us in the Belmont Regional Park classroom getting ready to do our stream testing.

Swimming
Swimming has been our term 1 PE focus. We have done heaps of hard work and we celebrated the end of our lessons with some fun in the pool.
Self Portraits
We looked at some portraits by the artist Modigliani on the IWB. Mrs C showed us how the artist had given his subjects very long necks and included their shoulders. We used photographs of ourselves to draw from. Our pictures were created on black paper and then we blended pastels to create our awesome self portraits.
