Writing Recounts

We are writing recounts in class.  We have been working on having an introduction to our story that tells who, what, where, when and why.  We shared our writing today and discussed whether we had met the success criteria.

Today we planted out the carrot, beetroot, calendula and rocket seedlings.

DSCF2450

First we weeded the garden bed to provide a good home for the seedlings.

DSCF2459 We planted the carrots in front of the peas.  We were able to plant the paper cartons straight into the ground.

DSCF2457 We put some marigolds in among the cabbages.P9160018 P9160019

We had some fun.

P9160022 Destiny found a purple potato that we planted last year.  It looks a bit like a rat in the photo.

P9160023 P9160024

There are lots of big worms in the vegetable beds.

P9160025 Our plants are looking healthy.

P9160028 Jazz, our school dog came to supervise.

Senior Technology challenge

The unknown challenge for the Year 5/6 teams was to make a backpack from a newspaper.  It had to hold a sellotape dispenser and have room for a hat and a sweatshirt and be able to close.

Sadly team two’s straps broke.  Team 1 took out the day with first prize.  Great team work by everyone.  It was a pleasure to take you all.  Mrs C got to join in the fun as well.  Here is her effort.

The judges talked with us about how we made the ginger beer, what we had learned and how it was to work in a team.  Then they tasted the ginger beer.  One of our teams came third in this challenge.

The Year 3/4 unknown challenge was to make a flagpole and it had to stand up while being measured.  One of our poles was huge but it collapsed before measuring.  We will do better next year.
